Left on the Ground

"Left on the Ground" is an environmental documentary photography project that sheds light on abandoned trash and discarded objects left in shared public spaces.

Despite established waste management systems, we continue to leave waste behind. While not always intentional, certain moments—a hot summer afternoon, a rainy day, a late night, or a remote location—often lead to careless disposal. Items like cigarette butts are sometimes dismissed as insignificant and tossed aside without thought. These forgotten remnants linger, unnoticed, waiting to be seen and collected. Through this project, I aim to capture these traces of neglect, transforming them into a visual narrative.

Modern developed cities are equipped with advanced waste collection systems, featuring specialized bins designed for recycling different types of waste. In addition to these, numerous mixed-use garbage bins are strategically placed throughout various corners of the city. Yet, even with these systems in place, scenes of discarded waste remain common. However, this advanced system is primarily implemented in the most populated areas of cities, while remote and less frequented areas often have limited access to such facilities. While this approach is economically practical, it places responsibility on individuals to anticipate their needs and carry small bins or bags to dispose of waste properly until they find a public bin.

I began this photography project since 2024, and this collection showcases some of the captured moments. The core objective is to emphasize personal responsibility in protecting and preserving our environment. The focus isn’t on locations or brands—it’s on the presence of abandoned waste, regardless of its source.

Throughout this project, I’ve noticed certain items, like bottles and disposable dishes, appear more frequently than others. Their recurring presence is not a deliberate focus but a reflection of reality. All the images in this collection are editorial in nature, offering an honest glimpse into how human neglect leaves its mark on our world.

The photos displayed in this project’s gallery are all editorial works and available for licensing. If you're interested in licensing a single photo, a collection, or an entire gallery for use in articles, magazines, newspapers, blog posts, or other publications, feel free to contact me. Detailed information on tariffs and terms of use can be found here.

I warmly welcome sponsors to support this environmental documentary project, as their contribution will significantly enhance both the quality and diversity of the photographs captured across different cities.

I also welcome collaboration opportunities. If you need a reportage-style documentary project for a specific location, don’t hesitate to reach out.
