La Vie à Vélo à Strasbourg
"La Vie à Vélo à Strasbourg" is a documentary project exploring the life of cyclists in Strasbourg. Known as a crossroads for travelers and cultures, Strasbourg’s dynamic spirit is evident in every corner of the city. Cycling has become deeply embedded in the city's lifestyle, supported by dedicated infrastructure and urban management that recognize it as a vital mode of transportation. Strasbourg boasts the longest bicycle network in France and draws inspiration from its northern neighbors in shaping its cycling strategies for daily life.
The cycling culture in Strasbourg is multi-layered and diverse. Over the course of more than a year, I have photographed various aspects of this vibrant cycling life. During this time, I have witnessed significant developments, including the expansion of bike lanes, improvements in bicycle services and parking facilities, and the vast introduction of vélo cargo—bicycles designed to carry loads or even children, which plays a key role in encouraging the use of this eco-friendly mode of transportation.
The outcome of this documentary photography project will soon be presented in a book, currently in its final stages. This book categorizes the cycling culture of Strasbourg into several chapters, showcasing photographs that capture different dimensions—from cyclists and their bicycles to bike lanes, essential infrastructure, environmental impact, and the growing demand for innovative cycling solutions. Additional photographs, not included in the book, are displayed on this page to complement the documentary project.
The photos displayed in this project’s gallery are all editorial works and available for licensing.
